Ultrasound machines use high-frequency sound waves to capture live images of organs, tissues, and blood flow. This non-invasive medical technology uses a sensitive transducer probe to send and receive those sound waves. The machine’s central processing unit (CPU) then interprets the probe’s signals and converts them into images, and the images appear on the monitor.
Cleaning your machine’s monitor is important for optimal image clarity and hygiene. Use these three tips for cleaning your ultrasound machine monitor to achieve an efficient clean that won’t damage your screen.
1. Use Gentle Cleaning Agents and Materials
Use your device manufacturer’s recommended cleaning agents and materials to avoid damaging the display. Mild, non-abrasive cleaning agents are suitable for most ultrasound machine monitors.
You may also be able to disinfect with isopropyl alcohol and LCD disinfectant. However, you must avoid cleaners that contain ammonia, ethyl, or methyl alcohol.
Use a soft, lint-free cloth, such as microfiber. Microfiber is better than traditional cloths for grabbing dust and removing oily fingerprints.
2. Don’t Apply Excess Cleaning Solution
Another tip for cleaning your ultrasound machine monitor is to avoid applying an excessive amount of cleaning solution. The excess liquid can seep into the monitor’s edges or openings and damage sensitive electronic components.
Do not spray the screen directly. Instead, control the amount of cleaning solution you use by spraying it onto the cleaning cloth. After applying the liquid to the screen, wipe the monitor dry.
3. Wipe With Gentle, Circular Motions
Finally, use a gentle wiping technique to avoid scratching the monitor. Make gentle, circular motions to clean the monitor from top to bottom.
Never apply excessive pressure. For stubborn stains or marks, you can apply more cleaning solution and repeat the cleaning process.
Be meticulous about cleaning frequently touched areas, such as the power button and control knobs. These areas accumulate more dirt, oils, and bacteria than other parts of the machine.
Regular cleaning and maintenance of your monitor helps keep your medical facility clean, makes it easier to view images, and supports accurate image interpretation. Use gentle cleaning agents and materials, do not get the monitor excessively wet, and wipe the screen with light pressure for optimal results.
